The benches and plants on Gunners Park – Last week I advised that the artwork consisting of benches, roses and bulbs and been removed. (The Atomic Rose “Artwork” in Gunners Park was supposed to celebrate the Thames Estuary and the people who live(d) there.) I have been informed that many people requested a plaque on one of the benches be removed as it was, in their opinion, derogatory of the people of Shoeburyness, the Government and the Country. There were no objections to the benches or roses/bulbs but the “artist” decided that if the plaque went then the whole display would have to go. Attached is the content pf the plaque.

MAYA CLOSE PARKING From Peter Lovett: As you know alterations have already been carried out to reduce the risk of further accidents at this junction with Ness Road. Because cars have continued to park on the double yellow lines down Maya Close, the Council is proposing to extend the yellow lines (no parking at any time) from Ness Road down Maya Close to Jena Close. This should make it easier to exit at this junction, but please let the Council know your views if you agree or disagree.

On July 18th at 3pm there will be a Memorial Service in St Andrew’s churchyard, Church Road. It will last for about 30 minutes and will include hymns and prayers. After the service there will be an opportunity to go into the church and light a candle. A time to think, remember and give thanks for those we have loved and lost. The service is open to all. We will still need to follow government guidelines regarding social distancing and face coverings but we will be able to join in with the singing. St Andrew’s Church on Church Road is open for quiet and private prayer every day from about 10am-4pm. Please enter by the south door (away from the road) and keep the door closed to prevent the pigeons coming in!
