NEWSLETTER 22.08.2021

Work to strengthen Southend Pier starts ahead of building work – Some of you may have seen machinery being moved by barge to the end of Southend-on-Sea Pier so supports can be put in place ahead of a new public toilet block being built. The structural support is taking place ahead of building work to install new public toilets to replace the original toilet block destroyed by fire in 2005 and includes an estuary viewing platform on the floor above. Early autumn will see the arrival of the new electric pier trains, replacing the existing diesel trains which have been running since 1986 with eco-friendly trains.

Volunteer Risk Assessors Needed – Age Concern – Our Befriending Service plays a vital role in our local community reaching elderly residents who are socially isolated and often lonely. The service has been on hold during the Covid 19 pandemic but we are now trying to start back with home visits as restrictions lift. To ensure that everyone is kept safe we are urgently looking for volunteer risk assessors who will visit an elderly resident in their own home or care home to complete a risk assessment to assess the resident’s physical and mental state as well as their environment. Have you ever been involved in work like this for example as a nurse, a carer, a social worker? Do you have the ability to observe potential risks? Do you like meeting people and have effective communication skills? Can you spare the time to volunteer for a half day each week?  If the answer is yes – please contact to find out more.

Grab the Jab Campaign Needs your Support – We would like to ask whether you could please support us with our new campaign, designed to support and encourage young people across our borough, to take up the COVID vaccine. We have poster packs ready here and would happily send them to you if you would be so kind as to display them in your premises? Please let us know by reply if you could put up some posters and we will have them delivered to you at of course absolutely no cost by emailing
