SHOEBURY MATTERS – 23.11.2021

SHOEBURYNESS ANNUAL REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY PARADE and SERVICE – It was a large turnout last Sunday and the parade was impressive

Veolia Garden waste collection – I assume that some of you use this service and have received a letter informing you that the cost per year has risen to £60. I emailed them 6 days ago and have not received a reply to my query – ‘Why are we, in Southend, paying £60 when residents of Castle Point only pay £34 per year’. Maybe if they receive a few more emails with the same query we may get a response! – uk.southend-recycling@veolia.com

C 2 C Will be unable to run trains to Fenchurch Street during the festive period, with trains instead diverted to Liverpool Street or terminating at Barking on different days. While they fully appreciate how disruptive these changes can be, this allows Network Rail’s “orange army” of engineers access to undertake essential improvements, maintenance and upgrades.

Sir David Amess – The funeral service for Sir David that is taking place on Tuesday 23 November in Westminster Cathedral will be included in a special programme presented by Dave Monk from 12 noon, BBC Essex. This will include the memorial service broadcast live from 1pm. BBC Essex can be accessed via Essex – Listen Live – BBC Sounds or on FM radio frequency 103.5 FM or 95.3 FM.

The memorial funeral that will take place at St Mary’s Church, Prittlewell, on Monday 22 November is a family affair and strictly invitation only. Following the service, which will start at 1pm, the casket will be carried in a horse-drawn hearse through Southend’s streets, pausing outside the Civic Centre in Victoria Avenue and Iveagh Hall, Sir David’s Southend West Conversative Constituency office, in Leigh Road. Residents who do wish to pay their respects are asked to please spread out along the procession route, wear a face covering if you are able to and respect social distancing measures.
