Covid-19 Business Update 16/04/2021

The Roadmap to Recovery took another step forward this week with non-essential retail and some hospitality coming back to life. We continue to look forward to a summer with fewer restrictions, which is great news. To ensure that we keep managing COVID-19 and continue to reopen successfully and safely there are a few things to bear in mind. Read more

MAYA CLOSE / NESS ROAD JUNCTION – From Peter Lovett

I managed to hold a meeting with a senior officer from the Councils Highways Department on Tuesday and during this short meeting, he was able to witness three vans / cars park on double yellow lines. Because of the dangers of another fatal accident, I have also been told that the Councils enforcement officer was visiting every day until the end of the month to secure convictions, which they think will reduce occurrences of illegal parking. To my surprise one of their officers arrived on a scooter & drove down Maya Close. He then turned around & proceeded right down Ness Road, ignoring the two vehicles on double yellow lines & not taking note of the cars parked in the time restricted bays outside the newsagents. Obviously one of the Councils normal “tick the box exercises?”

The Council Officer has agreed to provide us with a drop box, so we can upload your photos & videos to update the Council on a daily basis. So PLEASE send your photos of offending vehicles to shoeburyresidents@gmail.com so we can support our members, especially those who live down Maya / Jena Close. Thank you

Over 200 Tonnes of Unflushables Cleared from Sewers in Southend – Anglian Water

Anglian Water has completed its clean-up of the sewers in Southend-on-Sea which began in December last year discovering some pipes were 85% full of unflushables.

The team cleared more than 80 kilometres of sewer pipes in the area and collected more than 200 tonnes of unflushables and waste from the pipes – roughly the equivalent of two blue whales. Using specialist equipment, including three tankers and three CCTV camera vans, engineers have assessed the condition of the pipes once they were cleared.

On inspection, only 10 small repairs were required, and no major issues were found during the four-month project. The work which took place across the town centre, South Church Park and both Western and Eastern Esplanade area, was completed to help prevent flooding in the area, the cause of which is often due to a build-up of unflushables in the pipes. Read more
