Easter Bank Holiday weekend is on the way. If your recycling and waste collection falls on Good Friday (2 April), your collection will be Saturday 3 April. All other collections days will stay the same.

Is your Kitchen Bin an Environmental Hero?

Many of us love cooking up a delicious treat for the family in the kitchen, but for Anglian Water’s sewer technicians the ‘dish of the day’ which greets them when they get called out to a blockage is food waste and fat. These can mix together with wipes and other unflushable items to create a disgusting fatberg which can lead to flooding and pollution of the local environment. If the sewage is blocked and has nowhere else to go it can overflow and find its way into waterways, rivers and the sea.

But the hero that can save the day is the trusty kitchen bin! And its handy sidekick the compost caddy can play its part too.

Volunteer Fundraising Branch Collector – RLNI

We are currently looking for a Branch Collector to join the Southend-on-Sea branch.

The RNLI has a network of local fundraising teams organising a wide range of activities and events which last year raised £14 million to save lives at sea. Each team is supported by a Community Manager, although the range and frequency of fundraising events is determined by the team members themselves. Read more

Ways2Wellbeing – Southend Adult Community College

The aim of every session is to try something new in a non-pressured and supportive environment. All courses can be accessed by completing a form with a Wellbeing Coach who will support you during a one to one chat to ensure that you are accessing the right course. Appointments with a Wellbeing Coach will take place over the telephone. The coach will call you at the arranged time. Read more

 

South Essex’s 24-Hour Race Goes Virtual – HARP

HARP, Southend’s homeless charity, are calling all running enthusiasts to register for their Virtual HARP24 event, an adapted and Covid-secure version of popular 24-hour running festival, HARP24.

The 24-hour challenge starts at midday on Saturday 19 June and finishes at midday on Sunday 20 June, with solo runners and teams aiming to run as many miles as they can during that 24-hour period. Read more
